Paramedics called for man tasered by police

Paramedics were called to a pub to treat a man who had been stunned by a taser gun by armed police during a 'raid'.

It is believed that dozens of police officers raided the Romany pub, in Colman Road, Norwich, on Friday evening.

As a result of the police operation, a taser gun was used on a man who was believed to be in his forties.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to the Romany pub at about 9.40pm to reports of a man who had been tasered.”

Police have not yet confirmed why they were at the Romany pub and it is also not yet known why the taser was deployed.

The pub's landlady , who took over the establishment in May, said the whole community was “shocked” by the incident.

The weapon, which uses darts to deliver a 50,000 volt shock, was first introduced to Norfolk Constabulary in September 2005.

Since then, statistics released under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that tasers were used in Norfolk eight times between January and July this year, up from six in the whole of 2007.

You obviously don't know the reputation of the landlord & landlady then. Both are extremely shady characters, the pub is a haunt for proven drug dealers & the landlord & his eldest son have numerous convictions for unprovoked assault.

There have also been instances of firearms at the pub.

The licensees are hardly as innocent as the reporter implies.

Seems the raid on Friday was gun related as well. In Norwich of all places, funny that the landlord allows that sort of thing in his pub.

Sad, because this pub used to be one of the best in Norwich, for a few years at least. That was until Norwich City Council forced out the couple who had it in response to a malicious noise complaint. Since then it has turned into one of the biggest shit holes in Norwich. I used to drink there and I’m quite a big geezer and considered by some ‘a bit handy’ but I tell you I wouldn’t drink there now if you paid for my drinks all night. Why do we allow this, when our watering holes are so important to us. The system allows people who couldn’t run a bath to run a pub, with all the social responsibility that it entails. Many things are wrong with our society and this is one of them.

Jason, his oldest son is some nutter who spends more time in the loony bin than on the street. I’ve had it, drinking there for all the reason you and the previous post have made. Would be nice if we could turn back time at the pub but hise things don’t happen in the real world, do they?

I know this site is about Britain being a police state, which I go along with but shit pubs like this almost defend the police state. I’m sure they don’t do armed raids for something to do but the landlady obviously thinks they do.

Pair of half wits. Who ever let them be in charge of a pub?

Never been in the pub (or Norwich for that matter) but we all know this type of joint. Should lose the license. Got a place near me just the same (Telford). Plently of police raids but nothing ever gets done.

So, leaving comments about a pub you've never been in? The Land Lord and Lady are the nicest most welcoming people you'll ever meet. The first time I went I the law was laid out straight, no violence, no drugs. Anything else goes. That's how pubs should be.
So the police have said why they were there, or why they shot a man. Any reports of guns, drugs or violence from either the owners or regulars? NO!!

If you don't know them or the Pub, you don't have a valid opinion.

Nick

Hi Nick, I drank in this pub from about 1980 until a month or so ago. I’m not sure who you are refereeing to as the nicest and most welcoming landlord and landlady you have ever met. Where do you normally drink, Basra? Helmen Province? I’ve drank in pubs all around the world and you should be handed a stab jacket when you walk into this place. The lights outside of the pub haven’t worked for about six months and that is never a good sign of a well run establishment, if you can’t change a light bulb you might not have time to clean your lines and how many ‘lines’ there are in that place. I agree with what you say about the last comment who has never been in the place but I have, hundreds of times and it just goes from bad to worse. I was in the Cat & Fiddle on Saturday evening (previously the worst pub in Norwich) and most of the customers there said they wouldn’t step through the door of the Romany. No violence, are we talking about the same place? Its one thing what the so called governor says are the rules and another one with what actually happens. I was in the gents not so long ago and there was so much white powder floating around I thought Amy Winehouse was in the trap. We obviously see different things in the same place. Like I said I’ve drank there on and off for nearly thirty years and with the exception of a few landlords who knew how to run a pub it has always been a shithole but never worse than now. I’m not a great fan of the police (with good cause) but do you really think they do armed raids for no reason? About as welcoming as the Ku Klux Klan would be to Barack Obama.

Even the boys from the site in Costessy hardly drink in that dive no more. Yes, we do have laptops in our trailers and a few of us can write. Romany used to be a good drinkers pub now its full out of work layabouts. Not surprised the Garda Siochana make the odd visit now and then.

Pub has now been closed by the brewery because of evidence supplied by the police but the landlady still doesn’t know why the place was raided. Only hope for this dump is to get a real management team in who have half a clue how to run a pub and that certainly hasn’t been the case in the last couple of years.

Locals are raising a pettition to keep the place open. They should be raising a pettiton to get the couple back who had it when it was a music pub. I'm no big music person but it was a hell of a lot better then.

Ive just been told about this site. People who run the pub don’t know about the drug thing. There are people smoking dope at the back of the pub every day. Everyone in the area knows about it. If the managers dont know then they must be blind stupid or both. There are even chairs outside for the smokers to use and the floor is littered with fag ends, half of them have raoches in. You don’t have to be inspector morse to work it out.

No drugs allowed; what bullshit. There was so much pot smoked at the back of the pub that the pigeons used to get stoned when they flew over.

Plus the licensees were conveniently never there when the police made any raids, well dodgy people, thats why anyone reputable wont deal with them.

Landlord has been inside in the past, and has been questioned by police in the past about unprovoked assaults. He is also a recovering alcoholic.

Landlady has been in trouble with the police for after hours drinking at their last pub. There's also stories going around about how she's conned money from people, and has driven for years without a licence.

Oldest son has been in prison twice for assault, and was also banned from football for assaulting a referee after he was sent off.

Middle son has been in and out of mental hospital for years, and they knew he smoked pot and took some of the harder stuff when he was under just 13 years old.

Man tasered has also had a known drug problem in the past.

Question. How the fucking hell did these people get a fucking license to run another pub in the first place? More dodgy dealings?

ex landland
Can i respond to this utter garbage put on here. We had the Romany for six months in that time not one person was charged with a crime relating to the pub, fact In that time we were turning over more money than any other landlord in the last ten years prior to us, enterprise figures not ours fact. In the six months of trading we had the police visit three times, how many times do they visit clubs in that time. All visits there were no arrests no charges. No firearms weapons or drugs were found during raids in our pub or our home.
In our stay woman customers rose from about 20 percent to 40 percent had it not been a safe pub would they use it with their children.
We had community days, like wrestling, bbq's etc attracting upwards of 200 plus people to the carpack and gardens all families i might add.
When we left we had a petition and a full pub of well wishes urging the authorities too let us stay.
You guys can judge us on stories and rumour many of you confess to not using the pub even, so how do you know.
I am no angel i admit but have been wrestling 26 years tried to put the old days behind me but in this country noboby allows you to get on.
In finishing we left the pub head held high and are still ask by lots of people if we can get another pub. By the way my wife has gained her national licencee certificate so that proves alot said on here is wide of the mark.
